Street Distribution

The street food distribution is a cooperation between Aid Brigade and Collective Aid. They rented an old kiosk in the city, where they can cook every day twice. Lunch and dinner.

The people again have to stand in line, but they dont need to register and they can get more food, when there is enaugh. I saw many people from the camp as well. But in general for street distribution there are only 100-200 people. Street Distribution weiterlesen

Sarajevo City

Yesterday we had a day off. It feels like weeks we have been here already. But its only one week. So half time now.

The city bazar reminds me on Jerusalem… the whole city actually… it is very interesting how different cultures live next to each other here… katholics, orthodox, moslems. I read somewhere that for Jews Bosnia is the second safe space in the world after Israel.

How to not change something, but help a bit

Collective aid was found a few month ago in Belgrad for support people living in the streets. They cooked and served food, gave blankets and cloths.

The camp „Usivak“ in Sarajevo was founded just two month ago. The bosnian NGO „Pozomi.ba“ asked Collective Aid to cook in  the camp. They signed a contract  for 6 months. The IOM gave them 50.000 Euros for preparing food three times a day for 400 people.

IOM stands fo International Organization of Migration. This is an organization from the UN that registers all refugees and talks with governments. „Usivak“ is a so called Transit- Camp for 600 people.

Before we came to Sarajevo we had to apply with our Passportnumber and all dates in an online formular. After we arrived, we got a small instruction from Collective Aid and had to sign a kind of contract.

For example… we aren’t allowed to share facebook contacts with the people in the camp or talk to them about politics or religion. And when you see somebody without shoes, you arent allowed to give them yours. Strong rules… No partizipation at all. We are the givers and they’re the takers. I asked why we can not let them partizipate in the crew, like it was in City Plaza in Athens… They said its because of justice. They dont want that just a few take advantage—- so they treat everybody like animals? Hm. How to not change something, but help a bit weiterlesen

Silvester in Sarajevo

Although the situation is fucked and bad, we still have a good time here. Silvester was funny. We stepped into a pizza bar and left after midnight and squated a ruin where we danced for hours. The next day four from us had the morning shift and of course we overslept…

We missed our bus to the camp, so we took Waltaa, my old Skoda, and drove alone. Thank google, we found the camp… We arrived two hours later for the shift, but it was ok. We had a good shift then and nobody was too angry with us…

Bosnien

23 hours driving from Berlin… six people, two cars…Kunterbunterhandlungsspielraum (KbH) asked me to join them on a trip to help a NGO called „collective aid“ between the years… its an organistation that helpes people without papers, … lets say… Refugees.

We stay in Sarajevo, Otes in a nice private rented house, just a few minutes away from the Volunteer House from „collective aid“.

Today we had our first kitchen shift in the camp, 20 minutes by car, next to Sarajevo City… its based on an old military area. They founded it two month ago. Round about 600 people are living there at the moment. The International Organisation of Migration (IOM) is involved and helped to found the camp.

We will help the next days in different shifts and try to find out more about the situation in other camps. Since the so called „Balkan Route“ was closed more and more people landed up here in Bosnia, still trying to make their way to Germany or other „good situated“ countries in Europe…
